Watermelon Slurpy…Upgraded!

It’s summer and it’s HOT!  You’re looking for a refreshing cold drink that will give you energy rather than sabotage your health (like so many beverages). 7-Eleven has nothing on this one!

This is super easy, inexpensive, fast to make and tastes amazing!  It’s a great drink to have post workout in the heat (after running or biking)…or just lounging by the pool.

The base…WATERMELON.  It’s a summer favorite…but also, watermelon has some powerful nutritional properties.

Here are 4 things I love about watermelon:

  1. It’s high in lycopene.1  Lycopene is an antioxidant that is great for the heart, the blood sugar and prevents many disease conditions.2
  2. It’s high in water!  Yeah, this one may seem obvious, but watermelon is over 90% water.
  3. It’s also high in fiber, magnesium and potassium. Fiber is SO important for the gut microbiome.3  Remember, gut health is key to healthy hormones, brain function, glowing skin and so much more!
  4. It tastes SO amazing!!

When you pick out a watermelon for this purpose, always get organic if possible.  Choose a watermelon that has seeds.  It’s more natural and the seeds contain life-giving nutrients as well.  They contain valuable protein, iron and zinc.4

Watermelon Slurpy Recipe:

Watermelon (chilled)- ~ 6-8 cups, chopped- add the seeds and white parts…it’s all good!

Ice cubes- 1-2 cups

A dash of Pink Salt

Organic Vietnamese Cinnamon ~1/2 tsp

Stevia- to taste (you can also use honey or maple syrup if you’re not concerned about blood sugar)

Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender (I LOVE my Vitamix).  Blend well and serve right away!

This is a really great treat that even your not-so-healthy friends and family will LOVE.
