The Mattress: Your Cradle for Dreamland

You spend about 1/3 of your life in your bed!  This is great news for health and longevity because at night while you sleep, your body is working hard for you to clean, repair and heal so you can anti-age and wake up refreshed for each new day.  That’s the good news.  All of that happens without you thinking about it!

The downside is that for most people, your mattress is one of the most toxic things in your house…unless of course you’ve done your homework.

In this post, we are going mattress shopping so you can invest in the right cozy abode for you and your loved ones to go into their healing zone!

I LOVE talking about sleep.  It’s magical when it comes to overall radiant health and vitality.  For more on sleep in general, check out this post.

Clients often ask about what I recommend as the best mattress.  It’s an important question since they’re truly an investment in your life.  When you sleep well, you have a healthier brain, more energy and better moods, just to name a few.  This is not the place to buy the cheapest one you can find!

Here are TWO key factors to look for when shopping for a mattress (and the company I use at the end of the post):

  1. Comfort is a major factor.  Many people toss and turn all night long and then wake up feeling stiff, sore and tired.  Too often, people assume this is a normal part of aging.  I assure you; it is not!  Although this symptom can have many causes, including digestive, stress and nutrient deficiencies, an old or poor quality mattress is most commonly at the top of the list!  A study conducted in 2017, compared latex and polyurethane mattresses and found that latex reduced body pressure considerably more than polyurethane.1  Put in other words: less aches, pains, tossing and turning!
  2. Toxicity!  Yes, you read that right.  You might be thinking, “I am not planning to EAT this mattress so why would toxicity be a factor?”.  I am so glad you asked.  Most mattresses are made from polyurethane or other synthetic materials.  These items can “out gas” and the chemicals can make their way into your air ways.  In many cases, these synthetic materials are even treated with flame retardants and other chemicals that are NOT safe and can impact sleep quality, liver function and overall health.  One study reported that there were traceable emissions but stated that they were “within allowable limits”.2  This is not good enough for me or my clients, friends or family.  What is the allowable amount of toxic chemicals you would want to lay in all night…or lay your children or grandchildren in?  The answer is ZERO!

In general, here are a few other “bed tips” that are indirectly related and can have a big impact on your sleep quality:

  1. Use a wooden bed frame!  Metal is a last resort as it can tend to drain the body of vital life force and especially impact the kidneys.
  2. If at all possible, the head of the bed should be pointed south (first choice) or east or west (second choice) but NOT north.  This is for good energetics and can have a big impact for some people.
  3. Follow all the tips and tricks in the sleep blog.

Back to the mattress conversation…

You want to find a mattress that is comfortable, safe/healthy/non-toxic and will also last for a long time.  Good mattresses cost too much to replace every few years…and you and your loved ones are worth WAY more than a cheap mattress!

What company do I recommend and how did I choose them?

I started vetting mattress companies about a year ago because I was getting asked about it all the time.  I wanted to help my clients but didn’t have a great answer.  So I began my research.  I started out learning about the industry and some of the things mentioned above.

But then, as I always do with any new product (not just supplements), I wanted to TEST them before I bought one or recommended them to you.  I found about 10 companies that looked good in terms of what I could find on their website.  I asked each one of them several questions, including if they could ship me a small sample of the material they used for their mattresses.  Several ignored the request, a few said “no, we don’t do that” and a few gladly sent me a sample.  Using QRA (Quantum Reflex Analysis), I was able to test them for myself to see which ones use materials that actually resonate with healthy cells…in other words, which ones are safe and even health promoting to sleep on.  And I found a WINNER!

I have started using and recommending Turmerry.  Here’s why.   They use organic latex, which is the best material for mattresses.  Many companies that claim that they use organic latex, actually just use a latex cover, but their mattresses are fully organic latex.  They have several certifications that you can think of as the equivalent of a food being able to have the certified organic label.  They also have reasonable prices (for what these are and go for), free shipping and you can try them for over 100 nights and if you don’t like it, get your money back!  Their mattress covers are made from organic cotton and as a bonus, they also have organic bedding!  I highly recommend checking them out!  Here’s my affiliate link…use this link to get 2 free pillows with your mattress purchase!
